Tinsley Hammond
Tinsley Hammond studied painting and printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at Heaven Gallery, and I’ll Cut you Hair Salon in Chicago’s illustrious Wicker Park. Using a traditional layering process, Tinsley begins every painting with a burnt umber under painting. The use of printmaking, ink jet prints, oil and interference acrylics provide a contemporary spin to a classical formula. A dichotomy is formed between the subjects she chooses to represent. Her portraits focus on the liminal quality of self-reflection and the excessive nature of self-projection. Through conditions of introversion and extroversion, subjectivity is demonstrated as a transitory element, never stagnant or even stable.
